The Twin Cities AWC Scholarship For Women in Computing

The Twin Cities chapter of the Association for Women in Computing (AWC), awards one or more scholarships in amounts from $500-$1,000 to outstanding students pursuing an undergraduate degree in a computer or technology filed. The actual number of scholarships and the amount(s) depend on fundraising activities held throughout the year and donations to the scholarship fund.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a female student, currently enrolled either full or part time, in a two to four-year accredited undergraduate program in the Twin Cities.

  • Must be majoring in a computer or technology field such as MIS, software engineering, BCIS, or related.

  • Must be completing or already have completed 15 credits in the program with a minimum of two semesters of course work remaining after receipt of the scholarship.

  • Must be a citizen of the United States or Permanent Resident.

  • Must attend the award meeting to receive the scholarship.

  • Must agree to provide a written or electronic report on academic progress at the end of the semester after receiving the award

 APPLICATION PROCESS

Please send all the items listed below together by April 1, 2011.

  • A current resume or CV

  • A completed application >>>

  • Two letters of recommendation from instructors or supervisors either current or past.

  • A current copy of your transcript

  • Responses to one or more of the following questions (Please limit your combined responses to 1500 words or less (four 8.5” x 11” pages, 12 pt., one inch margins):

    1. Why are you excited about working in the technology field?

    2. Describe your most fulfilling computer-related project or experience.

    3. Identify a current trend in technology and describe how it might evolve over the next ten years.

 Awards are determined based on the three answers. The most important considerations are motivation, passion, thoughtfulness, creativity, skillful communication, and participation in the computing community. 

The scholarship recipient must agree to provide a written or electronic report on academic progress at the end of the semester after receiving the award. Scholarship is awarded for tuition only on a reimbursement basis only. The scholarship is payable upon submission of tuition receipt.
